🌞 "Good Vibrations" and Heavy Realizations
Song of the Day: “Good Vibrations” – The Beach Boys
There’s a strange kind of poetry in choosing “Good Vibrations” as today’s song. It’s sunshine in stereo—crafted by Brian Wilson to capture joy, spontaneity, and cosmic connection. You listen to it, and for a moment, everything feels okay. The energy lifts you. The harmony holds you.
But today… those vibrations feel heavier.
Brian Wilson, the visionary who sculpted those impossible harmonies, passed away. And just yesterday, we lost Sly Stone—funk pioneer, musical rebel, soul architect. Two musical giants—gone back-to-back. It felt almost personal. Like the universe turned the volume down on something sacred.
It hit harder than I expected.
Maybe because I’m trying so hard to feel good these days.
Maybe because music is where I go to feel whole.
🧺 The To-Do List vs. The Will to Do It
Today was my day off—keyword: was.
In theory, it should’ve been pancakes, cartoons, and chilling with the dog.
But life had other plans.
So I got up, stretched like an old lawn chair, and tackled the list:
Made breakfast (simple, warm, and oddly therapeutic)
Did laundry (because I refuse to live like a laundry goblin)
Took out the trash and recycling (adulting: the endless boss fight)
Cleaned out the car (and found the legendary lone french fry)
Played with the dog (his tail wag > my mental state)
Worked out (legs = spaghetti, but heart = grateful)
Reviewed house upgrades (hello, slightly crooked Home Depot list)
Somewhere between “household warrior” and “semi-functional adult,” I remembered to breathe.
Kind of.
💪 Momentum > Motivation
Motivation? Nowhere to be found.
What carried me today was momentum—and the mild terror of running out of clean socks.
Not glamorous. Not Instagram-worthy.
But real.
Sometimes self-improvement isn’t a lightning bolt.
It’s a nudge. A sigh. A tired “just do one more thing.”
Today, it looked like:
Doing chores even while feeling off
Lifting weights even with a cloud overhead
Logging meals even when I wanted to log off life
Smiling at my dog, even when my heart was half-mast
That’s progress, too.
Not the flashy kind, but the kind that builds a life.
🧠 Grief, Growth & Good Vibrations
Grief doesn’t wait for your schedule to open up.
It doesn’t say, “Oh, you’re on a health journey? I’ll check back next week.”
Hearing “Good Vibrations” today was surreal.
Its joy almost hurt—a beautiful ache that reminded me how fast time moves.
How easily we forget to say thank you.
How people who once felt eternal can disappear in a heartbeat.
Even with loss, we keep going.
We build routines not just to lose weight, but to stay sane.
We walk through grief, one protein shake and one dog cuddle at a time.
🍽️ Today’s Fuel (AKA Not Just Coffee)
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with peppers & spinach
Post-workout: Protein shake
Dinner: TBD, but something green will sneak in
Snack: Coffee. Yes, it counts. Science will back me up eventually.
🐾 Small Wins, Big Picture
Did I do everything perfectly?
Nope.
Did I show up for myself when it was hard?
Yeah. And that counts.
Whether it’s folding laundry through a lump in your throat, or vacuuming while grieving—
It’s still progress.
And that’s all I’m chasing right now.
📝 Final Thoughts
If you’ve ever had a day where sunshine met sorrow—
Where the playlist said “joy” but your soul whispered “not today”—
You’re not alone.
Self-care isn’t always spa days and journal prompts.
Sometimes it’s vacuuming the car. Walking the dog.
Listening to music that breaks your heart in a beautiful way.
So here’s to the quiet victories.
The unglamorous wins.
To you, still moving through it.

And today?
That’s more than enough.
