"Whip It Real Good (Because This Day Tried Me)"
Dear Diary of Delayed Adulting,
Waking up today felt like being yanked out of a coma. But as I dragged myself toward consciousness, the universe—or at least my alarm playlist—decided to bless me with “Whip It” by Devo. Perfect. Not because I felt ready to whip anything into shape, but because the song basically summarized what the day would require: energy, sarcasm, and the ability to dodge metaphorical whips thrown by life.
Work? A Comedy of Errors.
Nothing worked. The register was slow. A shipment was late. A customer tried returning a pineapple that looked like it survived a cage match. It was one of those days where you blink and it’s somehow still only 10:43 AM. Every time I thought, “Okay, this is the worst part,” something new popped up to say, “Hold my coffee.”
But hey, on the plus side—I racked up a ridiculous number of steps just running around fixing things and avoiding a meltdown. Cardio? Accidentally handled.
Gym = Therapy Without the Couch
After work, I practically jogged to the gym like it owed me money. Today’s workout was less about reps and more about rage management. Every curl and crunch felt like an exorcism. After a few circuits and one slightly-too-aggressive treadmill session, I walked out feeling human again. Sweaty, but human.
The Dog: MVP of Emotional Support
Once home, my dog greeted me like I’d been gone for 10 years instead of 10 hours. We had a glorious play session which mostly consisted of him trying to steal my socks and me pretending I didn’t like it. His tail-wagging enthusiasm definitely helped erase whatever residue of doom lingered from work.
Friendships Are Like Gym Days—Good for the Soul
Later tonight, I had a spontaneous, overdue catch-up with a close friend. You know those people you don’t talk to for months, but when you do, it's like zero time has passed? That kind of friend. We talked about life, aging joints, confusing text messages, and that time we almost joined a Zumba class on a dare. I didn’t realize how much I needed that connection until I was laughing hard enough to forget I hadn’t meal-prepped yet.
Today’s Takeaway:
Some days you just have to get whipped around a bit before you find your groove. The key is to whip it back. With humor. And maybe a gym session.
Tomorrow’s a new day. Hopefully with fewer pineapples.
Until next time,
Me. Still trying. Still showing up.

Today’s Theme Song: Whip It – Devo
Mood: Frazzled with a side of endorphins
Steps: Too many. I might be part Fitbit now.
Calories Burned: Somewhere between "motivated" and "chased by bees."
