"Kickstart My Heart, Lose Some Weight, and Fix a Toilet (Or Try To)"
Song of the Day: “Kickstart My Heart” by Mötley Crüe — because today felt like life hit the gas pedal and forgot where the brakes were.
This morning kicked off with a win: I weighed in and lost weight! It's the kind of small-but-mighty victory that makes the grind worth it. I did a little internal happy dance (external happy dance pending caffeine). Seeing the number drop gave me a much-needed boost after the past few hectic days.
Feeling ambitious and mildly responsible, I set my sights on adulting. Mission of the day? Buy a new toilet and install it like the semi-handy hero I imagine myself to be in my head. The reality? Well, the toilet was purchased. But did it make it out of the box and into the bathroom? Nope. Turns out time isn’t bendable, and between work and errands, my DIY dreams will have to wait another day.
Work today was an endurance test. One of those days where the clock ticks slower than molasses in winter. Nonstop hustle, constantly on my feet, and the kind of day where you question your life choices but power through anyway because you're too tired to mutiny.
The one silver lining? Exercise. After being drained by work, I craved the structure of my workout like some people crave double-stuffed Oreos. I didn’t go beast mode, but I pushed through a solid routine that helped me clear my head and feel accomplished. It’s amazing how much a sweaty gym session can reset your brain.
When I finally made it home, my loyal four-legged roommate (also known as the supervisor of chaos and comfort) greeted me with tail wags, side-eyes, and a very clear “Feed me now, human.” After a quick meal, we played for a bit, and his goofy antics were the cherry on top of my whirlwind day.
Talking with friends helped, too. Just being able to chat, vent, laugh, or share weird memes reminded me that no matter how fast-paced and frustrating the day feels, I’ve got people in my corner. It’s a good feeling.
Reflection:
This journey to better health isn’t just about losing weight—it’s about finding a way to balance chaos with calm, exhaustion with effort, and frustration with forward momentum. I didn’t get the toilet installed. I didn’t get a full day off. But I showed up for myself in the ways that mattered. And that’s progress.
Goals moving forward:
Actually install that toilet (seriously)
Keep showing up at the gym
Keep prepping affordable meals to save money
Enjoy the little moments, like dog zoomies and loud glam rock
Here’s to another day closer to where I want to be.
