Home Repairs, Garage Sales & A Surprise Reunion

Song of the Day: “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey

Today felt like one of those never-ending quests you hear about in fairytales—except instead of dragons and treasure, it's plumbing issues and surprise expenses. What should have been a simple home repair spiraled into a full-on wallet workout. After talking with a professional, I found out the last fix wasn’t done right. So now, here we are, going back to square one—with a higher price tag and more time invested. Yay, adulthood.

But hey, in the spirit of self-improvement, I'm choosing to look at the bright side. At least this time, it will be done correctly, and I can stop patching over a problem that keeps popping up like a villain in a bad horror movie. Maybe I should’ve called a priest instead of a plumber.

After my morning workout—which, honestly, felt more like stress relief than exercise—I swung by a few garage sales on the way to work. That’s something I’ve done since I was a kid, a tradition I used to share with my grandmother. There’s something oddly comforting about walking through strangers’ driveways, sipping coffee, and scanning tables full of old picture frames, dusty board games, and oddly specific kitchen gadgets.

It’s not really about what you find. It’s the nostalgia. It’s the stories behind the things. Every item has a history, a past life that you get to wonder about—sometimes even hear about if the seller's chatty. I didn’t pick up anything today, but the hunt is half the fun.

Work was insanely busy, but that made the time fly. By the time I clocked out, my feet were tired, my head was foggy, but my spirit was lighter—thanks in part to an unexpected run-in with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years. We caught up for a bit, laughed about the good old days, and promised to stay in touch. I left feeling a bit renewed. It reminded me that life can surprise you in the best ways when you least expect it.

It’s so easy to get caught in the grind—home repairs, finances, routines—but moments like that are why I’m doing this. I’m trying to better myself physically, mentally, emotionally… and sometimes, all it takes is a familiar face to remind you that the next great thing might be just around the corner.

Here’s to tomorrow. Here’s to progress. And here’s to believing that even when everything feels chaotic, we’re still moving in the right direction.
