"Getting Ready for Summer: Memories, Motivation, and New Goals"
Entry #149 In the Summertime
As the days grow longer and the warm air starts to settle in, I can feel the excitement of summer building all around me. There’s something magical about this time of year — a season filled with carnivals, flea markets, concerts, and those spontaneous adventures that only summer seems to inspire. Every year, as we inch closer to those sunny days, I find myself reflecting on past summers while eagerly setting new intentions for the one ahead.
This year is no different. The anticipation of warm nights under string lights at carnivals, browsing through unique finds at flea markets, and waking up early for neighborhood garage sales has me buzzing with excitement. But beyond the events and activities, there’s another driving force this season: personal growth and fitness. I’ve been pushing myself harder than ever, both in the kitchen and at the gym, hoping to see the progress reflected not just in the mirror but in the way I feel.
One of the best summers I’ve ever experienced was just before the world changed with COVID. My ex and I spent that season hopping from carnival to carnival, catching concerts, eating fair food, and simply soaking in every bit of sunshine we could find. Those memories of music, laughter, and carefree days remain some of my most cherished moments. There was a freedom to those days — being outside, enjoying the weather, great food, drinks, and sharing it all with someone special.
Since moving into my house, summers have taken on a different rhythm. The first one was entirely dedicated to settling in and making the house a home. That meant days filled with projects and little time for leisure. The following summer, I managed to squeeze in a few carnivals, though many were scattered and a couple got washed out by rain. Still, the desire to chase live music and the energy of summer gatherings has only grown stronger with each passing year.
Now, as this summer approaches, I feel a renewed sense of determination. I'm pushing myself in ways I haven’t in a long time — lifting heavier, running farther, and being more mindful about what I eat. I know real change doesn’t happen overnight, but I’m committed to the process. The most important lesson I’ve learned through this journey is to do it for myself. Not for compliments, not for attention, but because feeling strong and confident in my own skin is priceless.
There’s so much to look forward to this season: a special trip I have planned, concerts I’m counting down to, and the simple joy of sunny days spent outdoors. Each workout, each healthy meal, and each small victory brings me one step closer to the summer I’ve been imagining. And when it finally arrives, I know I’ll appreciate it even more because of the effort and intention I’ve poured into preparing for it.
In summary, this summer represents more than just a season; it’s a symbol of progress, new memories, and personal victories. Whether you’re working toward your own fitness goals, planning adventures, or simply dreaming about warm nights and live music, let this be the summer you make it happen. Because with a little patience, effort, and heart — the best summers are the ones you create for yourself.
