"Training Like a Superhero: My Quest for Strength, Confidence, and Change"

Entry #119 My Origin Story?

Becoming My Own Superhero: My Journey to Fitness

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered what you truly want to look like? It’s a question I’ve asked myself countless times, and one that others have asked me as well. Some people dream of being as massive as the Incredible Hulk or Lou Ferrigno, the actor who portrayed him. But after thinking long and hard about it, I realized I’d rather resemble Superman or Spider-Man—lean, strong, and athletic. Then again, I wouldn’t mind looking like Thor either.

Finding Strength in Superheroes

Growing up, I was shy, overweight, wore glasses, and had asthma. I never quite felt like I fit in. Superheroes and comic books became my escape, my sanctuary. Whether it was through animated shows, blockbuster movies, or comic books, I immersed myself in their world. Even if only for a short time, those moments made a difference.

My weight fluctuated throughout my life, a constant yo-yo effect of gaining and losing. For the longest time, I accepted that I would never achieve the physique I truly wanted. I told myself that doing my best was enough. But deep down, I knew I wanted more. I deserved more. The only thing standing in my way was me.

Choosing My Superhero Physique

When it came to picking a body type to aspire to, Superman and Spider-Man became my blueprint. These two characters have always resonated with me, not just because of their powers, but because of their struggles. I grew up watching Christopher Reeve as Superman and tuning in to Spider-Man cartoons.

Clark Kent was awkward and clumsy. Peter Parker wore glasses, got bullied, and never quite fit in. I saw pieces of myself in both of them. Maybe, just maybe, if I could transform myself physically, I could also uncover a stronger version of who I truly am—minus the superpowers, of course.

Overcoming Doubt and Embracing the Challenge

There are moments when I wonder if I'm lying to myself—if achieving the body I want is just a childish dream. But then I remind myself: superheroes don’t quit. Every great comic book story has a moment where the hero falls, where they face their first real defeat. That’s where I am right now—on the ground, picking myself up, ready to fight for the transformation I want.

My Real-Life Superhero Training Begins

Crossover stories are everywhere—movies, TV shows, and comics. So why not create my own? My fitness journey will be a crossover between Rocky, Superman, and Spider-Man. I’ll take Rocky’s determination, Superman’s strength, and Spider-Man’s agility, blending them into my own personal training montage.

Tomorrow, it all begins. First, I’ll take my dog for a walk. Then, I’ll lace up my running shoes, hit play on Gonna Fly Now by Bill Conti, and start my transformation—one step at a time. I can’t guarantee I won’t quote Rocky along the way, but I can guarantee I’ll give it everything I’ve got.

Because in the end, I may not have superpowers, but I do have the power to change.
